Newly Designed Articulated, Allied Vehicle Number Plate by Lagos State

Source: Lagos State Government

What is an Articulated Vehicle?

An articulated vehicle is a vehicle which has a permanent or semi-permanent pivot joint in its construction, allowing the vehicle to turn more sharply.  In a broader sense, any vehicle towing a trailer or semi-trailer could be described as articulated.

Why Articulated Vehicle Number Plate?

The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, through the Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA), launched the newly designed Articulated and Allied Vehicle Number Plate (AVNP) on Thursday February 13, 2020.

The development is to further prioritize safe motoring measures for crime detection on Lagos roads and one of the features of the initiative is the creation of a robust database for all articulated and heavy-duty vehicles, especially those that ply State roads.

The essence of the database is to provide and share valuable information and data on an articulated vehicle with the law enforcement agencies, the Nigeria Police and the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) for safety and security as well as crime investigation and detection purposes

All new vehicles coming into the State through the Ports will be required to obtain the Temporary Vehicle Tag (TVT) to be issued by Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA) as a means of identification for yet-to-be-fully registered, newly-acquired vehicles pending full registration.

Who should get the new Articulated Vehicle Number Plate?

The new Articulated Vehicle Number Plate (AVNP) scheme has been designed and simplified to make issuance of the plates easy, therefore all vehicles that are classified as articulate vehicles are mandated to change their number plates to the updated Articulated Vehicle Number Plate (AVNP).
